In a few moments of silence, sitting at the mosaic tables just beyond the praca de arte, the fauna at IPEC playfully expose themselves. A large light brown bird deliberately approaches me with an inquisitive demeanor; lizards, moving with calculated steps and cautious eyes, appear from every direction with a predictable frequency; a butterfly delicately dances samba on a nearby white flower; a small yellow breasted bird bounces along the ground, settling on a nearby rock to observe her surroundings; a moth lands softly on my leg; a clique of tiny black birds gossip in a nearby tree; a metallic, jade hummingbird, with infectious and infinite energy, pollinates a yellow flower; an innocent grey and white dove-like bird looks sweetly down from the edge of the roof, she coos; and a large black crow (of sorts) sneaks through the tall dry grass to my left. I become aware of more and more butterflies behind me, their shadows on the mosaic table exposing their otherwise silent presence. All in just one minute at IPEC.
