We are now moving on from Belfast to Derry, the walled city.  We got to sleep in this morning, which I was really happy about!  Getting a decent night’s sleep should help me stay awake on the bus.  Because we toured the city yesterday, we get to take the longer, more scenic route to Derry.  It was really nice to get to see the ocean all the way there; it makes me feel like we’re finally in Ireland.  I really liked stopping on the beach and feeling the warm sand on my feet.  It makes me excited for Barcelona!

Our first big tourist stop was the Giants Causeway.  The Giants Causeway was a wonderful site to see.  To think that nature can form all those hexagonal-shaped rocks is amazing.  It was so much fun to clamber around on them.  The scenery surrounded the rocks was absolutely beautiful as well; it just added to the overall experience.  The myth behind the Giants Causeway was a fun little story, however I think I’m going to side with science.  (However, I’m not going to give up on Nessie!  I still think she exists!)

Then we arrived in Derry, where we learned about the tragic history of Bloody Sunday.  I had never heard about this before and I couldn’t believe that this tragedy happened so recently.  And only very, very recently, when we were in England actually, did England actually admit that the shooters had actually committed a crime and that the victims had done no wrong.  The age of the peaceful protestors is especially sad; of the fourteen, six of them were only seventeen years old.
