This morning I got to enjoy a delightful breakfast at the hotel.  They served so much food for breakfast here, and it’s hard not to overeat. It’s no wonder that obesity is becoming such an issue in Britain.  (At least that’s what I read in their newspapers.)  I need to do some running!

We took the ferry to go see Duart Castle today.  Unlike the other castles we have visited, people are still living in Duart Castle.  I can’t imagine what it would be like to grow up in Scotland, let alone in a castle.  And it’s awesome that the castle has been passed down in the family for so many generations.  Your entire family history is preserved in your house.  I’d imagine that they have strong family ties and place a lot of their identity in their family.  Being away from my family made me realize just how much of who I am is shaped by my family.  I don’t quite feel like myself away from them.

After the castle, we made our way back to the dock.  The roads here are very twisty and bumpy.  I don’t think that Scotland has any interstates!  Unlike the roads in the US, few of the roads here are straight; instead they curve with land.  It makes travel a lot more scenic, though it does take longer.

We stopped in at a café-bar to watch the USA game.  We were behind 0-2, but managed to make a come back.  We even managed to score a third goal and come out ahead, but the ref made a bogus call instead.  It was so frustrating.  I was never really into soccer before I came here, but now I really enjoy it.  I think part of it is because it’s such a big deal here.  I can’t help but get into the game when everyone around me is so passionate about it.  The world cup is so much fun and an exciting part of the culture here.
