We left Inverness to make our way to the Orkney Islands, and although they may be colder, it’s supposed to be really scenic so I’m looking forward to it.  We spent the majority of our time on the bus today, going from site to site.  One of our first stops was to see the castle of Duke of Southerland.  It was a quick stop and we moved on to catch the ferry.  I didn’t realize that the ferry would be so large.  I was rather surprised when I learned that the coach would be driving onto the ferry!  I didn’t see any seals on our way here, but hopefully I’ll see some tomorrow!

We boarded back onto the coach when we landed at the islands.  Everywhere you look you see water.  I’ve never been on an island before, and it’s a rather odd feeling.  There are little pieces of land that connect the masses, and you can see water everywhere.  I also like seeing the sheep and cattle across the hillside.  I grew up on a farm, but the sheep and cattle aren’t in the backyard.

We also saw the stone circle.  I like to speculate about what their significance might be.  I think that it must be something religious.  I cannot see any other reason that they might be built.  Maybe one day someone will discover the reasons behind it.  The stones were the last stop before the hostel.  The hostel is rather “rustic”, but it’s not so very horrible.  I went to camp when I was younger so I think I can rough it for one night.  While I was here, I really wanted to try the seafood, so I had sea bass at the restaurant.  It was really delicious, but not better than the fish I’ve had at home.
