EricaOverbeek's Travel Journals

What was your most challenging travel experience?

When I studied abroad the winter semester of my sophomore year, I was only 19 years, and had to learn how to travel and adapt to an entirely new culture on my own. The first few weeks were definitely rough, but it quickly turned out to be the best experience of my life and I have grown more than I ever could have imagined from it.

Stories from my Madrid Adventures!

So this journal blog thing is kind of confusing, first I have to make an entry, and then I make the actual journal I believe??? So we're going to try this :) So this will be where I'm storing all the journals for what takes place from now until August 9

Not reall sure what to title this one!

Its getting closer and closer to the end of the stay in Madrid!  sooo weird...   Well yesterday work was crazy boring...this whole week probably will be, because we're pretty much out of work right now, but I kind of don't mind...haha.  Yesterday after work I did a little bit of shopping and ran into Alberto and Cintía on the street, so we ended up going out to eat at VIPS.  I got back in time for dinner, and my roommates invited me to go get some paella with them, but I kindly declined when I found out it was 20 euros!  I've already eaten paella a bazillion times before, I don't need to spend 25 dollars that I could be spending on other stuff on something I've already tried out...haha.  It ended up being just me and Geraldine, my French roommate, hanging out at the apartment...then a few minutes later our new Hungarian roommate came back to find out she was locked out of her room!  We ended up having quite an adventure (and many language barriers) trying to get into her room, and finally got it open with a hanger... WIN.  Not gonna lie, that was pretty much the adventure for the day!

The day before that, I went to go see Toy Story 3 with Katie...quite entertaining because part of the movie is in Spanish, so the people in the theatre got quite a kick out of it....we also had to hit up our favorite frozen yogurt place on the way back....Soooo DELICIOUS....its way too addicting.   Today, Katie, XiXi, and I will be hanging out (probably the last time we'll all 3 be in a group) and then at night, I'm going out with all the Forocio interns to the event for international students we host every Wednesday night...I'm quite excited!  I'm really going to miss the people I work with, I've clicked with them all really well, and its weird to think that most of them I will probably never see again!

Its weird because last year when I was gone in Malaga, as the time got closer and closer to my departure back to the US, I felt really ready for it and like the timing to come back home was good, but this time its really weird because I feel like the end of the trip is coming way too fast and I'm not really prepared for it!  In a way I kind of wished summer break was a month longer or something so that I could get the chance to enjoy Madrid and my friends here for longer....now I feel like the end is making everything rushed and I am not ready to leave just yet :(  Once I get on the plane back though, I know it'll be different!

Also, the lady who cleans here continues to weird me out more and more everyday...yesterday she informed me that she's finds a lot of hair when she's cleaning the house, and she thinks it me so I should go to the doctor to get it checked out....then she started talking to me about some political situation or something like that and it was very akward...haha
