When I learnt that I was being awarded the Internship Scholarship by Adelate Abroad I was so excited about going to Barcelona I hadn’t even begun thinking about what or who I would be interning with. The first thing I read on the website was an internship with Party Earth (www.partyearth.com) – a company based in Los Angeles (in the USA) that do social reviews of bars, pubs, restaurants, clubs and coffee shops in Europe and America, more specifically in Barcelona. My eyes made the proverbial dollar signs that all the cartoon characters get when they’ve struck gold. I knew then and there that this is what I wanted to do.

Because this was no ordinary internship I was warned about the rigorous process candidates underwent during the application process. I had to submit sample reviews as well as perform more interviews – the works! And then the good news came – I got accepted at Party Earth. Woo hoo!!

Ok, so as per usual – all things didn’t quite turn out as I had imagined it in my rosy-coloured fantasy-filled head. I wasn’t the VIP star that got invited to the opening of every red carpet event smoozing with the likes of Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas... In all honesty, my first night out on the job was a bit of a flop. I had underestimated the need for planning (checking the address, umbrella in case it rains – which it did), etc etc. But after a serious pep talk from my Adelante coach, manager and publicist (hee hee), as well as a heart to heart with my Party Earth Supervisor, I got back on the proverbial horse and made sure I wasn’t going to fall off again any time soon. Three weeks later I’m still in the game and loving it!

So now I really am that lucky guy whose job it is to party... Crazy hey? Well it’s true. My internship consists of me going to bars, clubs, restaurants and the likes, mingling with the crowd, taking some low lit snap shots of people having a good time and checking that the beer prices are still the same. What can I say... Life is good.
