What is your traveling philosophy?

There are so many beautiful things in this world to be inspired by and travelling allows me to experience and appreciate those things.

I have decided to write an entry in retrospect since I have some nice pics of Grindelwald which is where I stayed from 5th to 10th August.

I travelled by train from sunny geneva, passed gorgeous countryside, filled with lakes and little towns perched on hills and arrived during a sun filled sunday afternoon in Grindelwald. This name may ring a bell if you have read the last harry potter book. Grindelwald was an evil wizard and after coming to grindelwald you would think that the place is controlled by one- I was lured into the sun filled valley surrounded by towering snow covered mountains and our camping spot had a brillant view of the Eiger mountain. We has all these plans about all the hikes we would do in the surrounding mountains. However, before we knew it the the skies brewed dark rain clouds with suprising speed as though the area had been jinxed by a Drown the Tourists Spell. The weather turned to complete crap, the mountains were veiled in thick cloud and there were buckets of rain pouring on crappy tent. It rained so much that there were floods in nearby luzern and interlaken. The rain really was relentless and we were drenched every time we left the tent. We endured 3 days of being crammed in our small tent progressively getting wetter and colder as the time passed. Interestly, some times the clouds would shift in the mountains and we could see piles of new snow formed on their peaks. More badluck occured when sheans camera died, and his backpack strap broke.

We decided to ditch camping for the time being and went to a nearby hostel in grindelwald grund. It stopped raining but the weather hampered our efforts to go on proper hikes. The mountains almost always had many clouds shrouding them and it would rain unexpectedly ...alot. One day, sick of hanging around dreary grindelwald, we decided to take the goldala to mannlichen. however the trail was closed due to snow and fog. I saw a webcam of the place and it was just a white out and 5C as well. We took a train to Kleine scheidegg and the station was covered in snow. It gave me the chance to make some snow balls and have a mini snow fight with shean. We did a long walk down from there to grindelwald. The descent was over 1000m and luckily we made it home before it rained again. I guess this is what to be expected of mountains, but I have to admit I dont fancy that kind of weather. After 5 days there and more unpleasnt forecasts we decided to bail and we went down the hill to interlaken....grindelwald is 900m+ above sea level while interlaken is alot lower down.

Everything seemed to improve in interlaken.. the sun came out, our accomodation was a relaxed hostel by a lovely turquiose river... I will talk about it in the next blog.

hahah sounds like Grindelwald was there alright =) your camp photo reminds me of Harry and Hermione in the Forest of Dean, it's a pity you didn't have the extendable beaded bag to take care of all that stuff.. =)

Been reading your blogs and sounds like your trip has been very interesting!

    cheers,
