I've just spent 2 days in Geneva and it has been a sunny change from Prague which was starting to have unpredictable weather towards the end of our15 day stay. On our last night in Prague, the rain decided to pour just as we went to see Next at our local cinema in Andel. Because it had been so hot and humid all day we left the window/skylight open, which just happened to be above our beds and hence the rain soaked our beds while we were happily munching on nachos and popcorn (they offer nachos in the cinemas..bit weird but tasty). Not such a great way to spend the last night there, but the skylight had been very cool on other nights, particularly when one night there was a storm which sent lightnening soaring across the sky.
Taking an Easy Jet flight here was great. Easy jet is not annnoying like Ryan air and the planes leave and take off at the main airports. While on the plane I am pretty sure that I saw the peak of Mount Blanc peeking out of the thick fluffy white clouds.
Well back to where I am now.Geneva has a laid back relaxed atmosphere. People seem kinder and move at at slower pace compared to the people of prague. It is VERY french here...the buildings, the language of course and just the vibe of the place. The cheese here is so darn good, really creamy and rich and I keep eating it even though I keep telling myself to lay off that fatty stuff. The city itself is next to the expansive and brillant blue Lake geneva and there is a noticable summer breeze rolling off it shores. Since it was so warm and sunny over the past few days people are out and about strolling the lake's shores or sailing in the many yachts that dot the harbour. There some sort of fete festival on and the pathways around the lake and some of the streets too are cramed with carnival rides and foodstalls and it was rather crowded. Me and shean wandered past the botanical gardens, which we went to yesterday (they have deer, australian parrots, flamingos and goats in pens there) and walked to a secluded spot for swimming. The water seemed a bit cold at first but I got used to it very quickly. As we swan, we could see the distant snow covered mountain ranges. It reminded me a liitle of the time I went swimming near lake tekapo and the water was pleasant despite the frosty look of the nearby mountains.
I could crap on forever today. last night I had 13hrs of sleep.Yes I did mean 13 hours, its not a typo. Well it won't be like that tonight. Its 12am and I have to catch a morning train to Grindelwald in the bernese oberland. From then on it's going to be back to camping. I have been staying at hostels since arriving in Poland. My accomodation has been very vaiable over this holiday...nice clean hostels with great facilities like this one in geneva, that dust infested hostel in krakow, my hostel in prague that had horrendous showers (cold-luke warm water with sudden losses in water pressure), camping on mountains in A (lofoten islands), camping in the weird stadium like camping ground in stockholm which always had albanian gypsies hanging around the toilets, camping in a abandoned quarry in the middle of nowhere in sweden or that time we stopped by the road at 3am somewhere north of Oslo and camped by the road. I can't help but highlight the nasty accomodation since they are pretty funny in retrospect. There are so many stories to be told that have come of these holidays but I just never have the time to write about them.
