I cannot wait to delve deeper into the design task. Today we brainstormed our first ideas of our dream school. My group, Allison, Arianne and Charlotte, have some really original ideas that would make for a truely innovative design. My personal favorite is the world map design. Since every class, of which there are four, needs there own room the continents of North America, South America, Africa and Eurasia will be the main classrooms. I semi-randomly assigned other geographic locations to other spaces we need. Australia as the observatory/science lab/weather station, New Zealand as the reception, Antarctica as the teachers lounge, Indonesia as a living machine, Japan as the library/computer lab, the Atlantic as the cafeteria, Central America as a kitchen, the Middle East as compost and Greenland as the Art/Music space. Gardens and other spaces will be to the side of the main hub described, but I am really pleased with our first attempt at a general layout. We have some very rough sketches, but will start the real drawing after we get the Community Action completed. Now that we have discussed the main buildings I am excited to do the real learning, how this buildings can be made sustainably, what sort of tools we need to provide to create the best learning environment and how we can integrate systems to create a true permaculture design. All in all, no complaints here; looking forward to pizza dinner tonight!
