Well, I'm finally here in Oaxaca. Although I got here Wednesday afternoon, I have to admit I've been using my free time to catch up on sleep and some internet usage. I did spend a good part of yesterday afternoon exploring the Centro which was absolutely full of people camped out on the sidewalks. I'm assuming it has something to do with the elections coming up but have yet to ask anyone.

Although I thought little of it before coming, once my friends in Mexico City started asking if anyone would meet me upon my arrival in Oaxaca, I began to feel a bit anxious about the day and a half I had to myself here. After 6 weeks with my roommates 24/7 in Trancas (a rancho outside of Dolores Hidalgo), I was more excited than anything to finally be doing something on my own. I consider myself very independent and have certainly traveled by myself before, but I realized that most of the last 6 weeks have been spent in constant company of others. Whenever I've been to a new city I've always been with at least 2 other people. I know I'm able to find my way around a new place, but the reality of traveling and staying alone was a little weird after such constant company. But I've been stepping out of my comfort zone and trying to force myself to do little things that I don't really want to (like going for de-lish tacos last night ALONE). The tacos were very rewarding.

I'm glad I've had a couple days to myself just to refresh myself and get ready for my next adventure. As much as I love my alone time, I'm getting really excited for this evening when I'll meet the other volunteers.
