What is the most interesting culture you've experienced?

Japanese, for sure. They have modern-day culture in Tokyo, but outside of Tokyo there are still parts where people still forage for mountain roots as a food source. You get the spacey fashions in Harajuku right next to the traditional kimono and shrine uniforms.

Tales of a Tall, Blonde Gaijin

From start to end, an in-depth look at the experience of living in Japan through the eyes of an overly enthusiastic American girl. My hope is to make this journal less tourist-y and more sociological [not to mention FILLED with pictures once I get there].

....They gave us all numbers as we walked in...

....January is pretty much over and I don't believe I've used a fork since I landed....

Nothing overly major to report this week, however some minor, nifty stuff. Wednesday of this past week I went to the Cultural Exchange thing at my school [which was poorly set up and executed, if you ask me]. They gave us all numbers as we walked in, which were to be our group numbers. After we got into groups, they basically said "Okay, here's your exchange groups. It's up to you guys now if you wanna meet up." Basically, they're entirely hands-off now, no facilitation of any sort. I've got three other Americans, one guy from Switzerland, and three Japanese students in my group. We're meeting again this upcoming Wednesday, so that should be interesting.

Went out with the girls from the dorm again Friday night. Nothing major happened, but I do have pictures.

Today I trekked out to Ginza, looking for something fun to do. I was hoping to find the Toyota Web building, where they apparently house futuristic cars you can go in and check out...never found it, though....Ginza is a large shopping district with some interesting stores. Unfortunately, much like in the US, the store owners don't allow photos T-T. One store had a rhinestone Mario!

I've actually got a lot of planned stuff coming up shortly....try to keep up with me here...

Feb 11th - Pacific Culture Club [I go to these lil' ol' ladies house and they show us how to do calligraphy, flower arranging, kimono and a bunch of other neat cultural stuff. After that, an optional onsen (hot spring) trip is scheduled.]

Feb 13th - Taiko Drum Concert [Enough Said].

Sometime when it's warmer - Tokyo Disney with the troop from Takadanobaba/Ghibli Museum at some point.

....and I think if the weather is nice tomorrow I might go to the Ueno Zoo!
