interesting adventures in flying
I left Australia at 12:30pm on April 26 and returned to the states at 8:30AM on April 26...wait, what?! Yup, I got to live April 26 twice, but believe me, it was not pleasant. First of all, I had to leave Australia. Second of all, I had to run like a crazy woman through LAX to catch a plane and then find out that my luggage didn't make it with me. Long story...
Our flight leaving Brisbane was a mess. The original plane that was going to be used had some problems so they changed the plane to one with 60 less seats. Meaning, 60 people were without a flight. My friends and I were the lucky ones with seats. But, this meant that the plane did not leave until an hour and a half behind schedule. So, our flight landed at 8:30AM in LA and our boarding time for our next flight to JFK Airport started at 8:30AM. This presented a problem. How are we supposed to go through customs, get our luggage, check it in again, go through security, and make it to the gate in 40 minutes? Run like hell, that's how. And that's exactly what we did. I could not breathe when I finally made it to Gate 121. Only to be told that they were also waiting for 30 other people who were in the same situation as us. Waste of energy that I did not have to begin with? I think so. Especially since we sat on the plane for another hour waiting for everyone else to show up.
We finally arrived at JFK around 7:00PM EST. We hear our names being paged to go see the British Airways rep. Oh no, what happened now? "I'm very sorry, but your luggage did not make it on to the plane with you. We apologize for the inconvenience and we will mail them to you by Tuesday." Greaaaaaaaat. No luggage. Awesome. Oh well, at least I get to sleep now.
