Well it's been a week down under and I must say I love it. At first glance it seems just like back home. Other than being on the other side of the road, driving from the airport it seemed just like a U.S. city. Seeing the McDonald's drive thru, and the shopping centres with Target's, you feel like you are right at home. That wore off soon as we arrived to our first stop, campus to get our accomodations. The campus has a very international feel with many many Asian and Middle Eastern people roaming about. You can spot the Americans instanly as we stick out like sore thumbs. The people here are extremely friendly and are willing to help out unlike anything I've experienced. It felt like the people were already good friends who were willing to help a friend in need. As we settled into our apartment it felt like back home again. Later we went to the shopping centre to pick up some necessities the culture shock hit. Instead of Wal-Mart we found Big W, instead of Burger King we saw Hungry Jacks. Then as we shopped in Big W searching for our normal products we barely found anything we have back home. Some things were similar but very different. Then as we did some grocery shopping it really hit me, we're not in Florida anymore. Searching for my comfort foods I found barely any. That's when I got a little homesick but that didn't last very long because our apartment complex is made up of mostly Americans, so that helped me feel more comfortable. As we have been going out this week you find the locals extremely friendly, and willing to just chat it up with anyone. Things have just seemed to get better and better and I absolutly love it here down under.
