I FINALLY MADE IT! It was the most interesting travel experience I have ever had...
After the many tears between mom, trev, dad (yes dad, that was rough) and porter (the dog, i know he will miss me the most) my journey alone officially started. Sitting in the airport and realizing that I was about to embark on the biggest adventure of my life made my stomach turn and twist in all different directions. I wanted them to tell me that I could board the flight right then and there, get the show on the road... but i was early, by at least 2 and half hours. When the announcement to board the plane did finally echo throughout the terminal I jumped up fast and quickly made my way to my seat on the plane. You know how they claim that it is a small world?? Well I used to think that it was a true statement because I live in Maine and its amazing how many people you make connections to. Well I guess its a small world in general, because I ended up sitting next to a girl that I graduated with from high school! Shocking, I know.
Once I managed to get down the plane food (I am still not sure if it was chicken that I ate), I tried to catch up on some sleep so jet lag wouldn't get the best of me. Thats when my life began to flash before my eyes... never had I experienced such turbulence in my entire life. Here I was about to die in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean before I even made it to Perugia!! I held fast to my seatbelt (like that would help) and luckily we made it safely to London, and then to Rome.
Rome was warm and for lack of a better description tropical. I couldn't believe the trees that were growing here... was that a palm tree, next to a pine tree!! The bus ride allowed for some extra nap time, which everyone seemed to accept until we arrived at the hotel. Once we arrived it was information overload. Dates and times were brought to our attention and eventually I met all my roommates (all who are very nice... there are 6 of them!) Somehow we managed to sleep that night.
The next morning we moved into our apartments in the heart of Perugia. I live in a beautiful 3 story apartment with my 6 rommates! I got the top floor with the only room with a balcony (and a full length mirror yay!) and am hoping to open the doors and enjoy the weather once it heats up. I am amazed at the cold over here. I knew it would be chilly... but I feel as though i didnt leave Maine completely behind. Haha
Last night we all went out to the bars/clubs and found one that we claim to be our favorite, La Tana. As Americans we were given free shots and the italians that worked there wanted to take pictures with us, which we didnt argue with. I also managed to get a free t-shirt, which means one less item I need to buy. The entire night was fun and we owned the dance floor.
Tomorrow we start intensive italian classes so we can become better accustomed to the language. Until more updates CIAO!
