I have now settled in completely. I have a routine at work. I have gotten to try some really good food at work. We order from a couple companies that deliver. On Monday I tried some type of friend chicken pieces with rice and vegetables and a duck egg. It was pretty good. The chicken was very similar to chicken nuggets or chicken strips available in the US. Yesterday I tried a beef stir fry type of dish. It was amazing! It had beef and onions and green pepper in a sauce over rice. Today I had kung pow chicken. The best part off all of this is the low cost. It is about $2 for more food than I can eat, with no cost for delivery. It has been interesting trying to talk with the other people in the office. When the other interns and I are at lunch several people will come ask us if our food is good. This happens every day. I also started my Chinese lessons today. Aparently I speak at a high level, especially for interns. It has been nice to speak Chinese daily again. I am looking forward to improving my language skills.Itern life is very different from summer or even the semester in Tampa. I am not used to a 8-9 hour work day or waking up early to be on time. It has been very tiring to also have a social life. I am trying to meet as many people as possible right now because all the interns are leaving at different times and you never know who is going to be around. But, even going out to dinner and hanging out for a while is draining when you work all day and have to walk everywhere. Walking everywhere has been another noticable different from my life in the States. I take my car absolutely everywhere there. Here I take the subway. And even when I take the subway I end up walking to my destination. I made the mistake of wearing new shoes a couple times and my feet are constantly reminding me of my mistake. However, walking has its good parts. For one, I can eat some less healthy food. A lot of the food in Shanghai is pork based, and fatty pork based. While it tastes good, it is not the best for you. I feel like walking compensates for that.Other than work and maybe grab dinner I have not done much in the past three days and I don't plan to do much until the weekend. I don't think I will make it to Hongzhou this weekend. My coordinator told me that NSC is planning a trip for sometime in June and I think it might be better to go with them so I get a better deal. I really need to make a trip to the grocery store so that I can maybe cook? That and I would like to see some other touristy things in Shanghai. Until the weekend I expect more work and nothing much else.
