Do Mexican cell phones have unlimited text messaging to God?
I was walking back to my apartment from dinner the other night. My walk took me past one of the 52,000 churches here in Oaxaca (actually, the walk took me by three of them). As I was walking past the Church of Carmen Alto, I noticed a man sitting on the steps of the church with his legs crossed, his hands together on his lap, and his head bowed. I didn't think much of it, but then I noticed another man in the same position a few steps above the first man.
The church doors were closed and the men were sitting with their backs to the doors. I thought maybe this was a way to pray when the church wasn't open. I slowed down to look more closely and there was a glow coming from the second man's hands. He wasn't praying, he was texting. I looked back and the first man also had a cell phone in his hands.
