We left Pung-Waan Resort early this morning and the good news is there was no exorbitant phone bill waiting for us when we checked out. First stop was a temple. Before we went inside, Kong led us to a group of vendors selling various Thai delicacies. He explained each one and gave us samples to taste. This is also where I encountered the Japanese-style toilets. It kind of reminded me of my grandma’s old toilet in the province.haha
After the temple, it was a long bus ride to the city of Phitsanulok. We stopped for lunch in Uthai Thani province. In order to get to the restaurant, we had to ride a tricycle with 2 long wooden planks in the back for passengers to sit on. It was a nice touch. The restaurant itself was quite nice and it was located near a river. The view was superb and even the dogs were friendly. It was very relaxing there and I liked rural Thai life in that instant.
We drove for a few hours again and we finally arrived in Phitsanulok at around 4 or 5 in the afternoon. We went straight to another temple where I saw more of those giant fans stirring the air around. There were more local people milling than tourists so that was nice. There was a small market outside of the temple. In one of the stalls, there were cute kittens. Too bad they were not for sale.haha. I wouldn’t have been able to take them home even if I wanted to.
We checked in to the Pailyn Hotel after we visited the temple. The hotel was okay but I liked Pung-Waan better. After we had our stuff sent to our room, we went out to search for an Internet café. We’ve been so out of touch and offline for a couple of days, we just had to go online at that particular time. We couldn’t stay long however because dinner was at 7pm.
The night market was next on our list after dinner. It was a short distance from the hotel and the stuff they sold wasn’t really Thai. They were mostly imported stuff so not everyone enjoyed it. I bought a phone card from a nearby 7-11 and called home. Tana, Melissa and I wanted to get a massage but it was already late and Kong didn’t want us to stay out late. We told him we know our way back but he was adamant and said he’d wait for us for 30 minutes but his expression didn’t quite sit well with us so we decided to forgo the massage and just go back to the hotel. He really cared for our safety and it was touching. We loved Kong even more after that. ☺
