Sukhotai: Ruins and Temples
The ruins and temples are just fascinating.
I was surprisingly energetic despite of getting just 3 hours short sleep. The ruins and temples are just fascinating. It was my first time to set eyes on a massive collection of ruins all in one place. AMAZING! Sukhotai, a city located in the northern part of Thailand used to be the capital city of the country.
It was a lovely day to visit the temples and ruins, the weather was perfect. We walked up to the north as soon as we managed to find a parking spot and got off the car, looked at a couple of small temples and took some photos. We bumped into a "bike-rent place" and decided to rent 5 bikes for 50 bhat a piece. I recommend everyone to do this. It just makes your tour faster and more fun. It was funny because my colleague (a guy) didn't know how to ride a bike [hooray V&H! you guys are not alone! :-p]. So.....he became my passenger! Well I must admit it was quite a challenge driving a 180 pound guy and myself around what used to be a city [not complaining, just telling the story here ;-)].
By 1pm we were all starving and decided to eat at their food plaza located at the center of the compound. We all had the famous "thai rice" and "chai tea". We paid around 350 bhat for 6 people, a pretty good deal. We chilled for a few minutes watching a group of students who looked like they were there for a field trip biking around the food plaza. We noticed that Thai people in the north have lighter colored skin and "chinese-like" eyes compared to people from the south.
The museum was our last stop which was not a very good call. We didn't get the chance to check out the stuff on the second floor because they were already closing. It was a good museum though. I particularly liked the translations of some writings from the walls of the temples. I think they were really cool.
After a fun ruins and temple experience we were all exhausted and ready for more Thai food. We stopped for the famous banana crepe which is by the way very delicious and I highly recommend that you all try it. We also stopped at a restaurant few miles from the Sukhotai temples where we ate a couple of Thai's famous food, PadThai(my favorite fried noodles), Tom Yum (a sour soup with coconut milk and shrimp), Stir fried Thai Rice - All spicy! Yum! - Thai food is on the top of my list of favorite cuisines in the world!
We decided to just spend the night at a nearby hotel. They next day, we are headed to Chiang Mai! yey!
