What is the most interesting culture you've experienced?

In Mauritius, there is as much variety in the scenery as there is diversity in its cultural heritage, which is a blend of Arab, Dutch, French, British, African, Indian and Chinese influences. There is magic throughout Mauritius Island, in its astonishing natural beauty. It also shows in the pride Mauritian people take in showing off their country.

The Magic of Mauritius

A radiant, pearly blue sky and scented summer breeze greeted us upon arrival. The day was warm and sunny, with a little rollicking wind blowing across lush mountains and sugar cane fields. I made up my mind firmly to live out my perfect dream holiday in Mauritius, the land of sugar and smiles.

The six–hour journey from Dubai to Mauritius flew by as Emirates Airline’s
Boeing 777-200 bore us swiftly up in the Arabian night skies, guiding us effortlessly
to our destination, an emerald isle, somewhere far (3,161 miles) away down to the southwest Indian Ocean.
We touched down at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Plaisance, on the southern tip of the island, approximately 48 kilometers southeast of Port Louis, the capital. November proved to be an ideal time for spending summer in Mauritius. A radiant, pearly blue sky and scented summer breeze greeted us upon arrival. Formerly known as Ile de France, the islands that make up Mauritius (other islands are Reunion & Rodrigues) lie in the tropics, occupying 804 square miles and forming part of the Indian Ocean islands associated with South Africa.
The volcanic main island of Mauritius is situated some 800 kilometers east of Madagascar and constitutes part of the Mascarene Archipelago – once a land bridge between Asia & Africa.
Because of its strategic position between India and Africa, Mauritius sparkles like the “Star and Pearl of the Indian Ocean”; hence, its Latin motto: “Stella Clavisque Mari Indici”.
