  • Of plumbing and phones

Travel Journal from France Vannes, France | Wed Sep 21, 2011

(First: I am not really in Vannes; where I am - Auray - wasn't in the drop-down box, but Vannes is the closest. I actually went to Vannes yesterday!) 9/21/11 Foreign plumbing. When you think of exploring new lands, you don

  • Au Revoir!

Travel Journal from France Boulogne, France | Mon Jul 25, 2011

Well, it has been a while! I went from Paris to Florence to Rome to Berlin and back again. What an adventure! I spent the night in a Milan train station, because Italian trains are notoriously late. Thank god for German ICE trains, because they, I have you know, are NEVER late. Anyway, after a not so comfortable night in Milan, I made it to Florence in the morning, just …

  • The Wind Comes Right Behind The Rain?

Travel Journal from United States Connecticut, United States | Sat Jul 02, 2011

Why would I drag my family out to a place where it is an unbelievable 105 degrees each day, for summer vacation?  That is what this journal is all about.  Diamonds in the rough.  OOOOOOklahoma "where the wind comes sweeping down the plain."  Raised there also.  And so while I naturally want to see my family, I also want my wife and two younger kids to see where I grew …

  • Dancing, Challenges, and Literature

Travel Journal from France Nancy, France | Tue Jun 14, 2011

On Saturday night, my host mom had a dance recital with the community dance company. She was in 3 numbers. There were also several classes of very young girls performing, and then after the intermission, the ‘big girls’ classes performed. The whole evening almost felt like George School’s Dance Eclectic. It was more about celebrating movement, music, and creativity, than being the Russian Ballet. Every …

  • Bound For Snow--Last Day In France

Travel Journal from France Saint-Malo, France | Thu Jan 20, 2011

Well, here I am at the end of the trip.  We had a really good meeting in St. Malo with the CEI staff and then stopped for lunch.  Savory crepes and then desert crepes.  What do you call a person who orders a plate of desert crepes with chocolate, caramel and ice cream?  That would be me. I fell asleep on the train ride from St. Malo back to Paris.  I …

Yes, David! I would love to travel with you on weekends. Get settled and then think about where you want to go. My plans so far: my host family and I are spending nearly all of July in Greece & I hope to go to Paris in August to see my first host family from 2009. Other than that, I'd love to explore anywhere! I don't have a French phone yet, so the best way to contact me is facebook me ("Kayla Grorud")
