  • Getting Ready

Travel Journal from United States Washington, United States | Fri Feb 10, 2012

This trip to Italy is not a sudden decision. This is something I have always planned (in my head) on doing once I retired. And that is why, even before I retired, I took courses in teaching English as a second language. Last winter I drove myself crazy doing an online course in ESL - and now I actually have a certificate...whatever that means. But I do feel qualified and …

Travel Journal from Spain Madrid, Spain | Wed Jan 11, 2012

I now have given 3 days of English lessons to the 2 brothers, and it has actually been a pretty good time. I basically have an hour and a half with each kid. Julio is 11, and has a very good work ethic. Last semester in school he received what I think is the same as an “A” in America. Lessons with him are very easy. We start out by …

Travel Journal from France Paris, France | Sat Jan 14, 2012

I have decided to blog about my travel experiences. Anyone interested in learning more, can visit my blog at: http://ksalvo-quivivraverra.blogspot.com/ I'll be headed to France as part of the Conversation Corps on January 13 and will be there until April 10. I'll be based in Neuilly-Plaisance, a suburb about 12 km east of Paris. But, I'm definitely interested in meeting others and traveling, so if you're going to be in Europe …

Travel Journal from Spain Santander, Spain | Sun Dec 11, 2011

The plane ticket is bought. The dates are set in stone. And the day for my departure is rapidly approaching. I leave for Santander, Spain on February 5, and frankly, I'm nervous already. I feel like the many years I've spent learning the language mean nothing. After emailing and skyping with my sweet, sweet family, I realize that the communication issue is going to be more difficult than I had …

  • A helpful ESL website

Travel Journal from France Marignane, France | Wed Nov 23, 2011

Bonjour everyone! I run my blog for my travels on a different site, but I just wanted to pop up a really useful website I've found for ESL teaching. I don't know about everyone else, but I was really struggling to find websites that were easy to follow guides for lessons, so I thought Aha! I've finally found one! And I wanted to share :) http://www.ego4u.com/en/cram-up/grammar Enjoy! ~Lisa

What is the difference between Conversation Corps and Conversation Partner?

Topic The difference between Conversation Corps and Conversation Partner

    Started by RandyLeGrant, 0 Reply

GeoVisions has two types of Conversation Programs. They are Conversation Corps and Conversation Partner. What is the difference?

Basically, Conversation Corps is where you go abroad and live with a family and tutor that family in conversational English. You live with the family and become, for a short time, a member of that family. You eat your meals with the family and do some social activities with them.

A Conversation Partner is a tutor OUTSIDE and AWAY from the home. You do NOT tutor a family in conversational English, although you may live with a family. You are a conversation partner to a group of people. GeoVisions has Conversation Partners tutoring the Tourist Police in Costa Rica, tour guides in Ecuador and national park staff in Brazil. So you might live with a family as a boarder, but it really isn't going to be a real family feel. You may in fact live in a dorm, a hostel or small hotel. It all depends on the country, the assignment and time of year.

So choosing Conversation Corps or Conversation Partner involves whether or not you want to become a part of a family and tutor them in conversational English or if you want to be more independent and teach outside your place of accommodation in "on the job" kind of "real life" situations. The choice is totally yours.
