Highlights

  • Edit Café really enjoyed Eric's incredible enthusiasm (so did we!!) and gave him access to their video cameras and editing equipment to pursue his own creative project.
It was the great pleasure of the Volunteer Adventure Corps to host Eric Taylor, a senior from the University of Oregon's school of journalism and communication, in Cape Town as a participant of our professional internship program from January to March, 2008. Having studied video production and documentary film at journalism school, we placed Eric at Edit Café as a video post-production assistant. A link to their company website can be found here: (http://www.editcafe.co.za/). Edit Café really enjoyed Eric's incredible enthusiasm (so did we!!) and gave him access to their video cameras and editing equipment to pursue his own creative project. With about three weeks remaining before his departure, Eric knocked on my office door with a request to discuss possible video storyboards. He mentioned that he had really enjoyed his internship experience in Cape Town and wanted to create a video that would reflect his many adventures. I gave him my full support and we explored a few possible approaches, though this was about the extent of my input on this project. He then proceeded to develop a video/editing strategy with the director of video editing at Edit Cafe and on the final day of his internship, stopped by the office again to show me this: I have him a few demerits for spelling our name wrong in the opening credits, but otherwise, I think his video speaks volumes about the Cape Town internship experience.
