First Week Back ... aka - start of SPRINGITIS!!!

Okay .... so, I know that I skipped over a lot that I did during break, but I don't have my journal (where I wrote everything down) with me at school so I am skipping to my first week back J
Monday was ..... fun. Loved sounding like a guy and having a runny nose and coughing ... it was great (OH! To catch many of you up whom I have not talked to on AIM or Facebook, I got a fever/flu/cold mixture while in Turkey which escalated to be even worse when I got back to København which lessened a lot by the time I classes started again). I learned the hard way that, after three weeks of break and traveling round Europe, it is REALLY really hard to come back to classes. I caught springitis, but am making sure that I get things done and don't get tempted too much by it. Classes were alright … it was just hard to really focus and stuff … we got our tickets for the FCK football game that we went to Sunday (April 6) in my Danish class Monday and … yeah ….
Tuesday night, my friend, Becky, and I found out that Rooney and Kelly Clarkson were/are coming to København!! My friend is a HUGE Rooney fan, so we made a deal that I would go with her to that concert if she went with me to my Kelly Clarkson concert. So last Thursday night we went to Lille Vega (Little Vega …. Its where smaller venues play in the concert hall and where the dance hall is and stuff). We got ourselves a drink, and went to the stage so we could be one of the closest people there. What was horrible was that, basically, there were at least 50 Danish kids between the ages of 13-18 …. and 13 or us college kids …. a few adults …. And that's it. But, like, SO many little kids … I didn't really like that, but that's just because they were in our way of being right up against the stage. Rooney was …. FABULOUS. I didn't think I had ever heard their music before until my friend told me that the lead singer, Robert Schwartzman, played Michael in The Princess Diaries and that the band he sung with in the garage scene was ACTUALLY Rooney!!! So … yeah … FABULOUS! And they are SO nice! I mean, you had to buy a shirt to meet them, but meeting them was awesome! They are super sweet and really nice! Robert shook my hand, and hugged my friend Becky after she told him about missing their concert in NYC by 3 hours and how she needed a hug. It was fabulous! Tomorrow night, we are going to the KELYL CLARKSON CONCERT held at Stor(e?) Vega (Big Vega) and I am so superdedupery excited!!! Especially because I got tickets for myself for her summer tour, which she then CANCELLED for some stupid reason, so this is my belated birthday gift for myself!! J
I got a fabulous call from my brother, Jason, on Thursday night. I think he's the first one in my family (in a long time) to make sure that I'm not the last to know about very important news, and I was THRILLED when I heard about it!!! And I was jumping all over the room and …. Well …. Just very excited. Don't know how I did my work. LOL.
Friday, during my Popular Culture class, we talked about high fashion and how it relates to popular culture and stuff. And I got really frustrated because I did not like the way we went over it. We had a power point slideshow of it, with pictures of high fashion through the decades. But I thought (and told her during the class rep meeting) that a great way to go over it with visuals would be with certain Project Runway episodes … not to go over it completely, but to show certain ways that it was done. And I told her about Daniel V's dress during the inspiration episode, and then, during season 4, how they not only had to create high couture ensembles, but also make a dress that would be in stores. Now how perfect would that be – high fashion and then how it relates to real life! Well … I think that went through one ear and out the other. So, yeah, wasn't very enthused that day.
Friday night was GREAT! For some strange reason, my friend trusted me to cut her hair! So the deal was that she would make dinner (which, like always, was FABULOUS) and I would cut her hair. So she had medium-longish hair, which is now shoulder length. And, I know … why? Well …. When cutting hair, it's hard to know exactly how much you are cutting off with that first snip, and the only other person I have don't it for is myself … so … yeah. BUT she likes it and it helps shape her face and I am hopefully never doing that again until I get more practice on … something … J So, Lauren, I have NO idea how you are so good at it because my hair was always PERFECT every time you did it!! Wish I had your talents …
Saturday I slept until noon and it was exactly what I needed! Then I got some work done while awaiting the call from Jason and Maryl to hear the (presumed) good … no … not good … EXCELLENT news! My brother Jason is now engaged to the LOVERLY Maryl!! YEAHNESS!!!! So I'm excited to come home and celebrate with them! I celebrated by myself (well … with my friends, but they didn't know that we were toasting anything) later that night when I had friends over, by toasting to their engagement! So, as just written, I had friends over that night and we drank and ate, and then went to Lille Vega, but to try out the dance hall there. I found out that I like Danish dancing a LOT better than American grind-dancing. Basically, there's this whole sway side to side, maybe a little bit a feet movement going on. But nothing too big or difficult. The only thing I don't like is that they don't use their arms, and I'm used to waving them in the air (like you just don't care!) or something and they just … don't. So that was frustrating. Also … the music was a mix of American 80's-90's … with some Danish music interspersed … but my friends did not like that music at all (I, on the other hand, was THRILLED not to be hearing rap and really bad hip hop that I normally hear on the radio at home, so I was totally fine with the music. We had a mini-scare when this creepy guy asked my friend, Nichole, to dance and, like, held her captive for 30 minutes. But we saved her! And then, when we were about to leave, the boys wanted to see who was playing downstairs, so we waited for them outside the door. The creepy guy CAME BACK and when I saw him I put my arm around my friend, basically to be "she's mine, don't even try it." He asked her where she was going and if he could join, and she somewhat stupidly said that we were going to my place (maybe I'm cynical or pessimistic or see the glass half-empty, but when a weird guy like that asks where you're going, you do NOT tell him the truth!). He then turned to me and said "F*** you! You're a B****!" …. Which I did not understand, but whatever. I was really nervous he was going to follow us back to my place, but thankfully he did not (if he tried, I was going to call us a cab and take it, instead of walking the 5 blocks back to my place). My friends Becky and Nichole stayed at my place overnight because they live in home stays and the night bus sucks.
Sunday was FOOTBALL DAY!! We got to go to FCK (… something that stands for the København football team, but I'm not sure exactly what it is…) for FREE, which is basically the only perk I have gotten all semester from being in the Danish class (… okay, besides learning the language of the country I am living in). The game was København vs. Jutland (the largest peninsula of Denmark, connected to Germany), and after watching so many American football games, I forgot how small a soccer field is … but it was AWESOME! We were RIGHT behind the goal which, okay, not the best seats in the house, but you get to see how close they are to scoring! The bad thing was that, well, while FCK is number 1 or 2 … they FAILED at this game miserably!! Maybe the Jutland defense AND offense were just too good … but it was sad. So I was glad that I got to drown my woes in stadium popcorn (delicious!), coke, ice cream (Magnum bars, which is vanilla ice cream, and chocolate layer with almonds in it) and hot chocolate. J So, ever since that game I am impatiently awaiting my KELLY CLARKSON CONCERT, as well as seeing Molly in 8 days, Melissa in 16 and Rachel in 17!!!
Until I write again,
xoxo
