Oh, Hector. Love your journal and glad you have this opportunity to explore different culture. Your host family looks like a wonderful people and their kids are so cute. It must be very hard not to be able to express yourself completely in Japanese but you know you have all your relatives, friends, teachers here with you at the other side of world and supporting you. I am sure you will be fine as time goes by. Love your video of showing the city. Make sure you eat well and do have enough sleep. In general, Japanese people are very geneours, polite and very soft spoken. So, do not be too 'aggressive' and 'push too fast' to get any answers right away! :-) I am so happy that you took this step to explore. You are very brave and like to face challenges. It's probably so cool for them lol. We keep missing each other on skype because I tend to leave it open while I'm not home and then when I come home and see the messages from you it's too late :( Hopefully you come on today because I will be on my computer doing homework that is late -_- So you already completed your first week! I said I am so glad you had a safe flight! I think it's awesome that you like your host family. I also like it's awesome that you have your own room. Me and my mind thought you were going to be sleeping on a couch :/ I am going to look at this everyday to see if you post any journals or pictures. Please PLEASE take LOTS of pictures so when you come back you can visit and show me :) We miss you back in Jersey :( These 3 months need to go by fast, but hopefully not too fast for you because I want you to enjoy yourself. A month at a Monastary

I am currently applying for a summer study session that will take place for a month in a Buddhist Monastary in Zhejiang Province, China. I will live the life of a monk for a month, adhering to a strict diet, limited use of technology of any kind, and hours of meditation.

  China: The program will take place at Ayuwang (King Asoka) Temple in Ninbo, Zhejiang Province in southern China. The Ayuwang (King Asoka) Temple is located in Ninbo, Zhejiang Province in China and is one of three most famous temples in Ninbo, along with Tientong Temple and Xuedou Temple. Ayuwang Temple is three-side surrounded by Mt. Taibai with a pleasant and beautiful environment. Founded in 282 BCE by monk Huida, during the Western Jin dynasty, Zhejiang province’s King Asoka Temple is said to house one of 84,000 pagodas commissioned by its namesake ruler to display the relics of Sakyamuni Buddha. It is one of nineteen mainland Chinese temples to share this foundation story. King Asoka Temple’s sarira/relic is said to be a fragment of the Buddha’s skull. Preserved in a pagoda typically closed to the general public, it is presided over by a resident monk at all times. The relic, which resembles a pearl of pewter color and rice-grain size, is suspended in a glass container in a gossamer netti
