So today we were talking about Robin Hood in class. It's such a great story; it's about hope and justice. Robin Hood is definitely one of my favorite tales. I'm not sure if it's the adventure, or the rebellion, the love or friendship, but there's just something I love about it. I could talk about Robin Hood for ages. I've read as many stories as I could about him. Kids stories, historical fiction, non-fiction... And I've seen a few movies, watched a few shows, I just can't get enough. One of the things I like best though is how Maid Marian can hold her own. She and Guinevere are probably the historically oldest women--aside from mythological goddesses--who are really respected and independent. And Marian is definitely my favorite character from any legend.

But I've really enjoyed all the information I've found about Robin Hood. In today's class we went to look at the Robin Hood Project which really just condensed all the tales to one site and was still able to give some background on the authors and the language of the time. It was especially helpful for some of the oldest surviving stories as the older English is quite hard to comprehend. Then again, I love old stories--especially legends and myths, those stories you don't really know if they're closer to reality or fantasy.

Also, I've always enjoyed the way Robin Hood and his band of merry men could always out-fight and outwit the tyrants, help the peasants, and were still happy living off of what they did on their own. I really can't wait to see the new movie!

Ashley and I were discussing plans for bank holiday. One of the options is York and a viking museum? I don't really know much about them, but Ashley seems to, so that might be fun. If not, I can always stay around Ormskirk. Mimi's brother's coming into Liverpool so I can hang out with them, and I think there'll be a fair few people from Openshaw staying behind. At this point, it's really just a matter of money and whether I'd rather spend the weekend traveling or going around a somewhat familiar place.

After class, Ashley, Mimi, Gov, Chris W, and I went into town and then into the park again. Then we headed into Morrison's so that Gov and Chris could show us what crumpets were. I'm not exactly sure what my thoughts would be--I've always heard of tea and crumpets, but I never exactly knew what they were. Maybe a cross between a cookie, cracker, and croissant? I'm not sure, but whatever they were, in my mind they were entirely English and things of myth. It turns out that we DO have crumpets in America. However, we call them English muffins. When the lads found this out, we all had a good laugh. I love English muffins for breakfast--they're great with apple jelly!

Tonight, our plan is to just chill out and watch the England vs. Mexico game. Then, Robin Hood tomorrow! I can't wait!
