What was your most challenging travel experience?

Having to get to Greece. It was such a pain driving 10 hours from Germany to the port in Italy. Then we had to wait overnight in the car--all the hotels were booked--until the ferry left the next morning.

 just being able to see a Shakespeare show at the Globe Theatre...is such an honor 

We toured the Tower of London this morning. I didn’t really know what to expect as I had never really heard any information on the Tower, but it was quite cool. Basically, we were brought to the Tower and just set loose. It was quite big and housed several smaller buildings. There were even proper guards like you would see outside of Buckingham Palace!

Mimi and I just kind of set about wandering. We started at the Bloody Tower. It was a bit of a let down though, and didn’t quite live up to its name; it claimed to be the prison of Sir Walter Raleigh, though his entire family—even the servants—lived with him. The armories were much more interesting. There must have been five or six floors of weapons, armor, figurines, and just general historic information. One royal figure who kept coming up was Henry VIII (I really only mention that because I found it a tad ironic that later that day, we went to see Shakespeare’s Henry VIII). Next, we headed to the Jewel rooms where all the crown jewels are kept when not in use. There were also scepters, plates, and ceremonial decorations as well. I really enjoyed all of the information they had and was particularly interested in that about the coronation ceremonies.

After leaving the Tower of London, we enjoyed some fish and chips for lunch and went to Knightsbridge for shopping. Then it came time to go to the Globe Theatre.

I enjoyed going to the Globe immensely. Firs of all, I love theatre and so I was really excited to have the opportunity to see a live show. On top of that, I absolutely adore Shakespeare. Also, just being able to see a Shakespeare show at the Globe Theatre (even if it’s not the original) is such an honor. Though it did drizzle for most of the time, I loved watching Henry VIII and left excited to go back for the next play (Macbeth.)
