What was the dumbest thing you ever did while traveling?

I overpacked my suitcase wayyy too much. It was almost 10 kgs over the maximum. Not only did I have to pay extra, but I also had to buy another suitcase so I could get souvenirs.

Giant’s Causeway is literally this giant field, if you will, of rocks.

Rocks. Lots and lots of rocks. That’s what I remember most about today. We started out by leaving Belfast (thankfully. I’m not going to say I wasn’t a little scared by all the warnings we received by Tom the day before) and starting to make our way to Derry. On our way, we got to stop by Giant’s Causeway. Mimi (being the nerdy environmentalist that she is :)) was really excited, but I had never heard of it. For those who don’t know, Giant’s Causeway is literally this giant field, if you will, of rocks. And the craziest part is they’re all hexagonal or octagonal shaped, not quite the shape you’d expect rocks to be. Anyway, I had lots of fun climbing them—it reminded me of my childhood in Arizona where, since trees are sparse, we used to climb giant rocks all the time.

When we did get to Derry, it reminded me so much of Belfast I was amazed. Once again, there was graffiti everywhere. This time, though, there wasn’t a wall dividing the city and most of the graffiti dated back from the 60s when Bloody Sunday occurred. Excuse my ignorance, but up until today, I had no idea that Bloody Sunday was anything other than a song by U2. Tom stopped the bus for a bit and gave us a small walking tour of these murals painted on the houses and the memorials around Derry.

Derry. It was all very sad, but I also found it very interesting.
