Yesterday in class we watched the new Alice in Wonderland directed by Tim Burton. I liked it, but it wasn't my first time seeing it either. I did like it better than the original animated version, though to be fair I was never a fan of the original in the first place. Then Mimi and I took our last trip into Ormskirk just to walk around and say a kind of goodbye to the town. The market was up again and this time, we actually stopped at one of the stands and bought some dresses. 

By the time we got back, it was time for dinner and then everyone was getting ready to go out. Last night was the last night at The Venue--the bar/club on campus--so we were all pretty psyched to go. It was insane there! I didn't realize that many people were still at Edge Hill Uni as I've heard that most have already gone home. But it was a fun night and I couldn't help thinking about how much I'm going to miss everyone I've met here. It's only been a short while, but we all just kind of click.

In every conversation, I'm just more amazed at how different we--the Americans and the British--are. There are so many terms that I'm just not accustomed to, and so many minute details that just aren't the same. (This just holds true with my thought that location is a huge factor in shaping a person. Your geography, I think, is probably the largest factor, actually, besides your family. If you think about it, culture, language, customs, foods, they all differ depending on where you are. So really, it shouldn't be that big of a surprise that the United States and the United Kingdom are so distinctly incomparable. It's like trying to compare apples to oranges.) I've had countless conversations with the people I've met here about the differences in our cultures and I still just find it astounding. I think the craziest part is that we all assume that since we speak English, we'll just automatically be able to understand everything there. 

Today I've pretty much spent packing. I hate it; I'm terrible and such an overpacker! But once we get to London I'll probably mail out a box or two of souvenirs. Also, we had lunch courtesy of the International Office here at Edge Hill Uni, which was really sweet of them. Tonight I reckon will just be a chill night with everyone from Openshaw congregating in the common room. Probably a film or two. Maybe some pizzas. All I know is it'll be fun. It always is.

We leave tomorrow at 8 am for London. I think the trip is somewhere between 4 and 6 hours, but I'm not entirely sure. While we're there, Dr H was telling us we might not be able to keep up the online journals (or even have much use of the internet at all) so I'll just write them and then transfer them when I have the means to.
