I tried two new foods today: a Cornish pastie and eccles cake. They were both quite good. Cornish pasties are pasties filled with meat and vegetables. It tasted like a pot pie. Eccles cakes are apparently only from this region. They're more of a dessert stuffed with currants and raisins. Also, I think in some places here they call them flat cake.

It was literally 2.5 hours of really bad, really redundant fight scenes.

So today we had a class and a half, then set out for Liverpool. Obviously, I was excited. Robin Hood is one of my favorite tales of all time, so I was really interested in how they would depict him on the big screen this time.

Sadly, I was very disappointed. I tried to have no expectations of the movie, just a genuine curiosity, but it was terrible. It was literally 2.5 hours of really bad, really redundant fight scenes. (By the second hour I was falling asleep.) Also, they strayed so far from any Robin Hood story I've ever heard that it was almost impossible for me to follow the plot line.

In the first thirty minutes, they kill off King Richard which is NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN. Then, Robin, Will, Allan-a-Dale, and Little John venture back from the Crusades and are regarded as heroes. Also, they made it so that he was Robin Longbow and took the name of a dead soldier, Robert Locksley. Let's just say my favorite parts of the story were when there were the band of orphaned boys running around mainly because they reminded me of the Lost Boys of Neverland. I did think Prince John was a good actor, but then again, his character was far from the original one.

Apparently, this movie was supposed to be a prequel on how Robin became an outlaw, but as far as I could tell, it was just another pointless action movie that only used Robin Hood's name so it could make a lot of money in the box office. It really had almost nothing to do with Robin. They did get a few things right however: Prince John didn't like Robin Hood, Robin and Maid Marian were lovers, and Robin was an outlaw.

After the movie we went around Liverpool and shopped for a good bit, then took the train back. Again, we hung out with Openshaw.

Our trip to Wales has been moved from Wednesday to Thursday, which is probably a good thing as I really need to do some laundry. I'm excited to visit Conwy though. I hope it's interesting!
