The projects in each class are unfolding nicely, and I am starting to get settled into a routine.Furniture Design – We’ve been doing research on different techniques on creating strength with paper, including origami, repetition and locking folds. The purpose is to get use thinking about the geometry involved with creating a piece of furniture that can support 150 kilos (roughly 350 lbs) made out of Xanita board which is a lot like cardboard. You can watch the project progress on another blog (that’s how we submit our homework haha) www.jdeegzfd.blogspot.comManaging Design – Our group is working hard, and we’re making progress towards an idea to change the face of Melbourne. Our brief involved reading 11 passages that together are a part of a plan called Future Melbourne. The officers calling the shots in the city have called upon the students and kids to help shape the city that they will be growing up in. It seems our main idea is to make the citizens more aware of the impact they could have by doing smaller tasks like recycling and how to incorporate the chores into their routines.Sporting Directions – Nothing to exciting, just presented our basic research on ice hockey and its equipment, not really sure what the teacher is expecting but I am confident in my partner and I to generate a great concept by the end of the semester.Changing Patterns - RFIDs are the name of the game. I have been given our final brief, and I am designing for a company called Moose, an established Australian toy company. The toy has to take advantage of a Remote Frequency Identification. What that means, I have no idea, but there are some pretty interesting uses for these including U.S. passports, and human injection.I’ve had a chance to eat some Aussie cuisine. My favourite, is the Gelato, ice cream, but so much better. I can’t really describe it, but when I ordered a cup, I got to pick four flavours instead of just one, which I thought was awesome. I got all flavours that had caramel in them. I cooked up some Kangaroo Steak while we had a BBQ this past Friday. It is quite similar to traditional steak but it only takes 3-4 minutes to cook on a grill until it becomes beef jerky. Kebabs/Souvlaki is a delicious lunch option; it was beef, lamb, and/or chicken with capsicum (peppers) and onions and lettuce, yum.I have a few trips around Melbourne planned to do in the next few weeks ‘Footy’ game, Casnio, Tasmania, I’ll talk about those soon enough. This weather is putting me into vacation mode, it’s hard to get any work done, especially when the internet drops every 5 minutes, and it takes 6 minutes to load a webpage.I will leave you with 135 photos from the Melbourne International Car Show (Here) from the other week. No Jaguar or Ferrari, or Aston martin (though there was one or two of each in the auction section of the show) but still a pretty awesome show for 10 bucks.
