Howdy,Happy Easter guys. I started my week break with a four hour adventure through southern Melbourne, taking photos, and getting lost. It was a lot of fun and found some cool stuff. My main objective was to photograph street art, and while I was able to get a lot of cool photos, I also couldn't find some of the work that I had seen from the train, and on the internet."Melbourne, the second largest city in Australia, has gained international notoriety for its diverse range of street art and associated subcultures. Throughout the 1970s and 80s much of the city's disaffected youth were influenced by the Graffiti of New York which subsequently became popular in inner city suburbs and along suburban railway and tram lines. After the turn of the century when stencil art first became prominent in the UK, Melbourne was one of, perhaps the first, major city outside of the UK that embraced this art form, causing a vast increase in public awareness of the concept of street art." - WikipediaWiki has a good entry on the development of street art in Melbourne, and I think it is awesome how much this city is embracing 'graffiti', rather than:I got lost at one point traveling from the Richmond to St. Kilda (about 8-10km), and almost got hit by a car though, but I managed to survive. So I had no idea really WHERE I was going, but i had my barings straight, so I just kept traveling in what i knew was south-west, and eventually i found some water. I stumbled upon Albert Park, home to three Footy ovals and a huge lake. It was nice, but wasn't the end of my voyage. I battled through the Aussi sun, still south-west, and found St. Kilda! The locals don't really consider St. Kilda to be a true blue Aussi beach, but it is still the first beach I've made it to since i arrived. It was really wide, but the shore was very small. It is about a 10 meter walk to the water form the boardwalk, so there isn't much space to play ball or laydown. Still, a beautiful day, and a good trip. Here are the photos!
