Hey how yah goin’?
I started my classes on Monday the 2nd of March. I’ve got four projects; all of them are currently group assignments, which is a bit different from what I have done at MassArt. I am working on designing a toy, a sports bag for ice hockey, a piece of furniture, and I have yet to find out what the project for Managing design will be about. It is the hard part of the projects currently, research, mostly because the briefs are so vague, and there is a lot to learn about ice hockey bags and toys.
Weather has not been good nor bad, just cloudy and some well needed showers every so often. The fires have been burning through Victoria for more than a month now so any rain the fire-fighters can get the better. Hopefully the sun will make an appearance on Saturday when I go to a car show in the city. Don’t worry; pictures from the event will come.
Went into Melbourne to see first hand the famous night life it is known for. Wow. It was amazing; people everywhere, even at 3am making getting a ride home from a taxi difficult. There were live bands at every pub, and a huge variety of people and cultures. It was a very energetic atmosphere on the streets and seeing the city lit up from the bridges that cross the Yarra was jaw-dropping. Money well spent I’d say.
I’ve been reading a lot, for some reason. Chuck Palahniuk to be more precise. I read both Rant and Survivor. Palahniuk is a depressing nihilist but the style he writes prevents me from putting the book down. I like the books so much I went out and bought another, Haunted, which I cannot wait to continue reading.
The best part of the week came on Wednesday when my Furniture Design class took a trip the National Gallery of Victoria, the NGV for short. Why did we go here? Well, to see the most famous designs in chairs that I have read and seen in pictures since I started school at MassArt. It was, gah, I could not stop smiling. There was the Red-Blue chair by Reietveld, LCW Chair by Charles Eames, Panton Chair, and the of course the Barcelona Chair by Van der Rohe just to drop some names. Pictures never do justice.
Here are some photos of my apartment, for some reason they are all lop sided. I would correct them if I had Photoshop. A few are also from the day I went to the NGV.
Time to go empty my trash, it smells something foul.
Cheers
