So at 3am I heard lots of screaming to find out that one of the girls rooms was shaving creamed. Someone could have thought of a much better prank, but still got some giggles from the group. We boarded the bus and went to the "gold city." We were able to do some more wonderful shopping and then back on the bus to go to lunch. We ate at a …

Today we started on our long bus ride to Cuenca. Which I was right in saying it was going to take around 6 hours. But the Andes Mountains are absolutely beautiful. Once we FINALLY arrived we were able to do some quick shopping at the artisan markets. The locals are so fun to be around and to see their crafts. Everything is so wonderfully made and beautiful. I bought a …

Today we went to the "rich school" where the maids and servants children go to school. This site made quite a few of our students upset due to the exquisite nature of the conditions versus Dominga Bocca and Innes Chambers and Padre Pio. The only reason I didn't have a HUGE problem with it is because it wasn't children from rich families. The marble floors and the air conditioning off …

For day 3 of community service we went to Dominga Bocca. I love the fact that these girls, which most of been sexually abused, don't let their horrible experiences reflect in their daily lives. Dominga Bocca has done a wonderful job getting these girls to open up and not to be insecure. They are the best role models that anyone could ask for. They're vibrant and full of life. But …

Today is day 2 of community service and we went to Innes Chambers. Our group divided into two small groups. One group scraped paint of the walls and the other went to spend time with the children that resided at Innes Chambers. I remember Carol from my first visit and now she speaks English. She is so determined and so amazing with her studying skills. She studies 5 hours every …

Today was the first day of community service. I was in Group 3 which went to Padre Pio. Unfortunately none of our supplies were there so we didn't do anything except tour the premicise at first. Then we met the father who invited us into his housing. We talked with him for a while and he told us of his experiences in Italy and Brazil or Argentina. Then we went …

Waking up early on a Saturady morning, I walked around Guayaquil and just as I remembered, nothing was open. The people of Guayaquil don't have "store hours" they work when they want. So back to the hotel I went. Hotel's breakfast was equally as horrible as before, however some people love the local fruit juices. Then we start on our tour of Guayaquil. The locals love the Americans, especially blondes. …

After a long bus ride and a mini latin america at the Miami Airport, we finally made it to Guayaquil. Staying at the same hotel brought back a lot of memories of my past trip, especially staying in the same exact hotel room. Go figure. We got in a lot later so we couldn't really do much. But everyone was tired from a full day of traveling and my roommates …

Journal of Ecuador3/15/08Today is the first full day in Guayaquil and it was full of things to do. After waking from 5 hour of sleep, my new friends Amelia, Brennan and Daniel went to a karaoke bar in the basement of the hotel and didn’t get home until 3; we had breakfast which wasn’t too bad. After that we went for a tour of Malecon and the surrounding area. This …

We arrived early at Dominga Bocca to painting. The EBS proved themselves once again taking care of the two remaining rooms and the high vaulted ceilings. The girls quickly acclimated themselves with us and had no problem laughing at and with us. The groceries arrived that day in a Sam's Club like manner. Many fruits and vegetables all packed into grain sacks which had to be sorted for the rotting …
