We left the hotel this morning back to Guayaquil, with a few scheduled stops along the way. We stopped in an area where the water was a high sifting spot for gold, thus the area had multiple jewelry shops. It was a square of stores, with a small, but beautiful garden in the center of it. When we left that stop, we had lunch at a friendly place about 30 …

Day eight, we get ready to board the bus to take a tour of some of the local villages around Cuenca and then head back to the hotel in Guayaquil. The first things we see on this part of the trip are some small villages on the mountain side. We stop close to one town and walk down to it. This town is a lot smaller than the ones we …

Day nine, goodbye Guayaquil, goodbye South America, and Hello America. We have to wake up at 6am to board the bus at 630am to catch a 930am flight back to Miami. The people in the airport aren’t as intense as the people in the airports in the U.S., so everything went smoothly at the airport in Guayaquil and everyone made it thru with an hour to spare. We fly back …

We left Guayaquil this morning for Cuenca. We didn't arrive until between 4 and 5pm, but it was still a fun evening and experience. On the way up the mountain, there was a total transformation of dress and tradition. While in the city of Guayaquil people tended to dress more "new age" and of the times, those in Cuenca and towns nearby were much mroe conservative, traditional, and native. The …

Today was our eight hour drive up to the mountains; It was soooo boring but amazing scenery. The mountains were absolutely gorgeous and I have a great time just looking out the window. On the way up we noticed that the people looked different from the people in the city. These people seemed more down to earth, and intone with the real culture of Ecuador, the natural culture of Ecuador, …

Today we went to Fundacion Justo y Necessario. It was a much nicer facility for the children of the house workers for the upper class in the neighborhood. We painted 2 or 3 rooms and a hall way. When that was finished, we were shown a slide show about their goals, beliefs, and overall foundation. They had a running phone line for pregnant women to call. The goal of the …

Final heading back to home. I did like the city, but only to an extent. I missed the American standards way to much. Also, the speaking of Spanish was not for me, and wanted to hear English again. But it was great to see another way of life other than my own. I will never forget this trip, I will never forget my friends I made, and I’ll never forget …

We finally got home, home as in the hotel. I got back in my room, relaxed for a bit. Then around 8:15pm I headed out to get something to eat, then I was on my way to the blackjack tables at the Hampton Inn. Earlier in the week I was doing so good, but tonight I only broke even. But I had free food and drinks, which made it worth …

We had a very long bus drive today. It was longer than the drive from Jacksonville to Miami. We saw some very big mountains with very small roads. Boy was that scary! I can’t count how many times I was scared that the bus was going to fall of the edge and we all fall to our doom! This city of Cuenca was very nice looking. It felt safe to …

Hello there, now this place was in the worst part of the city that I have seen. This looked like a place where a war had taken place. The streets were torn up, the housing was no better than shacks! Once again a lot of stray drugs. We got to the place and we had to paint the walls, once again painting, and they were saving money, so instead of …
