When one person woke up in the small apartment, we were all up in a matter of minutes. The there was the list of who would shower when and whos turn it was to get stuck with cold water. Since the shower flooded the batherroom and expanded out into the kitchen area which was covered in a layer of sand, it was close to impossible to actually feel clean. We were only on our third day, second morning, in Barcelona and my annoying cleaning obsession was already making me extremely uncomfortable. I can’t phathom living like that all the time. I honestly feel bad for my future family having to put up with my obsessive compulsive ways. I bit my tongue though, and tried my best not to clean every five seonds.
After we were all ready we took off on foot for another long day of walking. We headed off to Barri Gotic, the very heart of the old town according to The Rough Guide to Barcelina. Our cameras must have been worn out by the end of the day. We were constantely snapping photographs of the beautiful midevil buildings. Two of the most elaborate sites were the cathedral right at the center of the Barri Gotic and the Temple De La Sagrada Familia which was quite a ways away from the old town. It was somewhere around an hour walk, but definitely worth it. While walking we got to see a great deal of the city that we would have otherwise never seen. Walking the streets really helps you to appreciate and better understand the culture.
On the way to the Temple De La Sagrade Familia we came across a cute little market where we stopped for a while and looked around. It reminded me of the small festivals we have back at home in my town. I really enjoyed walking around and seeing all of the different vendors.
After our long walk back to the apartment Jackie, Michael, and I went down to the beach to have dinner since the other boys had already eaten when they broke from the group. It was amazing just to be able to sit and soak in the Mediterranean environment. It was then that I began to realize how truly blessed and fortunate I am. I was really in Spain, somewhere I never thought I would be, and I was loving every minute of it.
