a broad in jamaica

this is supposed to be related to trips i've made to other places and not my home country but i wanted to add another angle to the whole experience. so i'll talk about issues that are considered to be 'real' in this journal. being at home and touring my island home, how people feel about me being a traveller, life with friends...

part one

my kingman and i went on the most amazing getaway last weekend to celebrate his earthday. it was a lovely event that started from saturday morning early when we loaded up the car with all the goodies we would need to make the weekend the bombshell it was: champagne, lots of water, my orange bikini, baby oil, and food.

we set off about 8h30 and, after making a couple of stops, including at the gas station to fill up, we hit the highway thru dunrobin and washington boulevard. we missed the exit for the spanish town bypass and ended up having to go thru spanish town which was really a pain but that didn't affect the good vibes that was flowing between us. we drove on to old harbour where we stopped by the aviary to collect the digital camera and try to get some extra money off my sister. she didn't have much, but at least we were a grand up in addition to the camera.

when we got to the may pen bypass we decided it was fluids time and i dug in the igloo on the back seat until i came up with ice cold mi vida water. we had that and then followed up with a bottle of guinness each. that certainly hit the spot. our next stop was at the juici patties hq in clarendon where we had veg and soy patties and fries and more water. we left there about a half hour later and soon got to porus manchester and then on to santa cruz in st. elizabeth. when i got to rocky hill i called my mom to tell her that i was in her home town and she told me to greet her sister when i was passing but i didn't get a chance to. we passed thru holland bamboo where i tried to get a good shot of bamboo trees forming a natural roof of leaves and shoots over a long stretch of road.

by the time we got to negril at the extreme west of the island, we were already so excited and piqued for the getaway that we couldn't wait to reach the west end where our cottage was located. i had started running the video of the trip by then. i caught ras dajazmach going into a multi coloured shop to get bidis, coming back to the car, lighting his bidi, then turning the key in the engine and starting the car, among other lovely videos of course. a minute down the road was the famous rick's cafe and then, about two compounds down, citronella, where we were staying.

ras dajazmach found his brethren who was the manager there and he showed us to our cottage. the resort was absolutely beautiful with colourful gardens, picturesque panorama, and wild waves crashing cliff side. and our cottage was exactly as the name suggests, real rustic wooden floors with straw rugs and a loft with a gigantic bed. there was a day bed on the ground floor and all the amenities: stove, fridge, heating, and a simple shower outside which led to gardens of red green yellow orange and purple flowers and all kinds of plants...

part two continues. read on....
