 Whale Watching

We watched beluga whales in the amazing Cook Inlet today. A local told me he had never seen so many at one time and as active as they are in his ten years in the area. They were very active and beautiful to watch. The whales are white and look like a large dolphin minus the snout. The belugas in Cook Inlet have remained within the inlet for at least 6,000 years without mixing with other beluga populations. The result is that they are distinct from other beluga species.

The drive from Anchorage to Seward is one of the most beautiful drives in the US. Glaciers come down from the mountains, eagles, moose and other wildlife is everywhere. The mountains are rugged and the terrain is ideal for moose.
